Tom Steele was born to a NASA rocket scientist on the Space Coast of Central Florida. He struggled for many years to overcome this handicap and make something of himself. In high school he was branded a "nerd" and a "geek" and was often stuffed into garbage cans during lunch period and had very few friends. In fact, it is rumored that he only had one friend during his childhood - and we have to hear about him constantly - the legendary Sean Tucker. Apparently Sean Tucker saw Tom as a charitable case and befriended him because no-one else would. Of course, that is not how Tom tells the story, but we know better.
After high school, Tom went to college at David Lipscomb (pronounced "Lip-Scum") University. Sean Tucker did not go to college with Tom, so he had to find a new friend. Enter one "Hawk Harrison." Hawk was "Mr. White County High" in his senior year and was voted "most likely to stay good looking" after high school. He also saw Tom's unique plight and decided to help him out. Because he was friends with Hawk, Tom was almost never stuffed into garbage cans during lunch in college.
To be fair to Tom, the friendship was beneficial to both parties. Hawk was too dumb to find his way to class, much less pass the classes and Tom helped him out. Hawk was majoring in "Days of Our Lives" with a minor in "Televised Baseball." Tom helped him pass these courses (and also "Mass Communications") and Hawk was able to graduate college.
After a few false starts with different partners, Hawk and Tom began working together in Greenville in April of 1997 and the rest is history. Listeners have been entertained with a unique blend of "the blind leading the blind" every morning on B93.7 from 5:30am to 9:30am for over 12 years and they have spoken loud and clear - Hawk and Tom have been number one in their ratings for 47 of the past 49 ratings periods and hope to improve those numbers by going 49 out of 50 next time around. They are not good with math.
Also notable is that on August 16 of 2003, Tom married his dream girl. A woman that was beautiful, sweet, kind and apparently unaware that she could have done much better. Tom rarely lets Jaime out of the house for fear that she might see there is something better out there and they have two lovely children - Quinn who was born in July 0f 2007 and Samantha who was born in October of 2008.
Tom spends his days in the basement of his house in Greenville playing online computer games and surfing the internet while Jaime takes care of the children and cleans house.
Tom drives a Corvette Z06 and is careful to point that out to anyone who will listen, even though most people think that driving a Corvette is a sign of being a jerk. He wears socks with sandals and gets his hair cut at a place that will do it for $12 and he gets a different person every time he goes. Tom is also the self-proclaimed "Superstar of the Upstate" and believes that he is the sole reason for the success of the Hawk and Tom Show.
